Robert Lee Stringfellow was born at Fort Clarke on his father's plantation on October 10, 1861. His parents were Dr. William Hall Stringfellow and Sarah Dogan Stringfellow. His early life was spent in Gainesville where he was educated and entered business in the grocery trade with his brother, T. B. Stringfellow. The partnership of Stringfellow Brothers continued here for several years and later moved to Jacksonville. Sometime later T. B. Stringfellow retired from the firm. It them became known as the Stringfellow Doty Company, and later the Stringfellow Padgett, until the firm of Stringfellow Harmon which was in business at the time of Robert Lee's death at age 64. |
