Martin Ichabod Coxe was born February 7, 1835 in Marietta, Georgia. He came to Florida as a young man and at the breaking out of the War Between the States in 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was Captain of Company A, First Florida Calvary, serving throughout the four years of the war. At the close of the war he returned to Florida and engaged in turpentining and lumber operation in Columbia and adjoining counties for some time before moving to Jacksonville, where he resided for some years. He was a Judge in Palatka. In 1875 Martin I. Coxe married Leah Ann Livingston. They had two children, Camillus Cotter Coxe and Rosalou "Doda" Coxe. |
