Bessie Kincaid Stringfellow was born on May 30, 1860 on the old Kincaid homplace less than two miles from Gainesville. She was the daughter of Sarah A. Moore of Chester County, SC and James Kincaid of Fairfield County, SC, who moved to Alachua County in 1851. She was married to Joseph Dogan Stringfellow on November 29, 1881. She was known as "Aunt Sweetie", and was referred to as one of Gainesville's best loved women, possessing a rare charm and a gentle disposition.She was one of the oldest members of the First Presbyterian Church, joining in her girlhood. At age 76 she died at her home at 430 West Union Street on February 23, 1927 and is was buried in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery. |
